Derek Huntington

Derek Huntington brings over 25 years of experience as a passionate and dedicated youth sports coach. His journey began with over a decade of teaching swim lessons and running aquatics programs at YMCAs in Santa Rosa and San Diego during high school and college, fostering a strong foundation in youth development. For the past 18 years, Derek has translated his passion into baseball, coaching for local Little Leagues, travel ball organizations, and even taking on coaching roles for both baseball and basketball in high school and elementary school settings respectively.

Derek's commitment to player development extends beyond traditional coaching methods. He is a certified Driveline pitching coach, ensuring his athletes receive the latest advancements in pitching mechanics and training. Additionally, Derek holds a CrossFit Level 1 instructor certification, demonstrating his well-rounded approach to athletic development that incorporates strength and conditioning principles.

Derek's dedication to youth development extends beyond the baseball field. He has recently transitioned to a career in elementary education, directly impacting young learners as an elementary school teacher. While pursuing his Master's Degree in Elementary Education, Derek continues to share his passion for sports and knowledge with young athletes.

Derek is co-founder and head instructor at 917 Piner Baseball and Softball.  He designs all of programming and leads the implementation of the technology and data supporting player development.
